About Us

Who I Am...

Hi there, my name is Lori and I am the creator and owner of Aunti Sissy’s Treasures.

I have always been a creative person, I guess you could say it’s in my blood. I grew up watching my mom take a plain ceramic piece and turn it into something that almost came to life. The small little details on everything she painted had to be perfect, right down the rosy, red cheeks she dry-brushed with her blush and a Q tip. Then there’s my dad who is a jack of all trades, if something needed to be fixed, he could figure it out. I spent most of my childhood watching him renovate houses with my grandpop, they were always painting, spackling, or building something. I must admit it was like watching a comedy show because they always argued about who’s way was the right way to do things.

I have been married for 24 years to my best friend and I have 3 beautiful children. When our daughter was born, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. I was fortunate to have this privilege and enjoyed every minute of it. Ok…. well maybe not every minute, those sleepless nights when they were sick, or teething was not always a joy, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. My daughter is now 22, currently attending school to become a nurse. My 2 boys, one 18, in school for computer science and the other 14, in his first year of high school. They are becoming independent young adults working toward their future and I am so proud.

This got me thinking, what’s next for me? Although I know my children will always need me, their needs won’t be the same. I have to find something to occupy my days while they are off doing there own thing. The house was clean, the laundry was done, and I had a lot of time to myself. While some may think that is a wonderful thing, for me it was not, too much time to think was never a good for me. I decided to go back to school, and I chose nursing with the hopes of working in labor and delivery. I was nervous, but so excited to start a new adventure. I was finishing up my prerequisites and working on my application to nursing school when I was dealt with health issues. Routine bloodwork led me to find out that I had a tumor on my liver that was 13 cm in size. It was benign, thank God, but if left untreated may turn into something more serious in the future. Unfortunately, it would not be an easy process to get rid of it because of the location. I spent the next 3 years going through many tests, procedures, and surgeries to shrink and remove this tumor. I spent a good deal of time in bed or in a recliner recovering, so I watched tv and did a lot of scrolling through Pinterest.

I came across a YouTube video where a creator took a simple Dollar Tree sign and turned it into a something completely different. I was amazed and thought "I want to do this". This is where the crafting bug hit me and now here I am, creating my own designs. My husband has been my biggest supporter through all of this, even with all my crazy ideas. I tell him my vision and he helps me figure it out. We make a great team and I love having him by my side. The name Aunti Sissy’s Treasures came from a nickname given to me by my brother. He had trouble saying my name when he was little, so he called my Sis, and I don’t think he’s ever called me by my name since. When my nieces were born my brother asked if they could call me Aunti Sissy, and I loved it. My daughter did some brainstorming when I was trying to come up with a name and she suggested adding treasures……it was the perfect touch!

Aunti Sissy’s Treasures was created, I did it! I have my own small business. I love creating beautiful décor and I’m so happy to be able to share it with you. Thank you for letting me share my story.
